PM-iMAGES  offers photographic courses for both beginners and experienced photographers.

 

WHAT DO WE DO? 

We offer a range of photography courses from absolute beginners to more experienced photographers, using our well tried  "hands on" approach .

WHICH COURSE?

A variety of course types are available to suit experience and photographic interest. Some courses are suitable for any digital camera and others specifically for  more advanced cameras such as Bridge Cameras, or for Compact system cameras (CSC) & SLR cameras which have changeable lenses.

 Courses are held in Little Bytham between Grantham and Stamford in South Lincolnshire  with some  courses at other selected venues in the East Midlands area.

COMPUTERS AND PHOTOGRAPHY

We  offer short beginners computer courses to show you how to transfer , organise,  and learn basic editing of images ready for printing. See below for more details.

 

 BEGINNERS DIGITAL COURSES - LITTLE BYTHAM

  Beginners Digital Photography  - Any Digital Camera   ( Day course )           

Escape from “Auto” mode and make friends with your digital camera. This practical course will take you through the important digital photography basics including how to set up your camera and then use the best modes for a variety of “everyday” situations.

  • Setting up your camera -  coping with modes and menus
  • Camera handling for better, sharper, pictures
  • Pictures taking sessions include views, putting people pictures and capturing detail

Find out how to take better pictures of landscapes or scenes, how to add  people or foreground interest in your pictures, and how to capture close-up detail. 

Step by step tuition and summary hand-outs are provided for your own use at home . A must for anyone new to digital photography , with a new digital camera or just struggling to escape “auto” mode”!                                                                                              Photography Bookings

 

  Computer Basics for Digital Photographers  (Half day)      

Taken the pictures – now what about that computer and how do I use it?

 This 2 ½ hr short course will help digital photographers to learn the most important basic computer routines as follows...

  • Transfer your pictures  from a camera to a computer
  • Finding pictures and viewing them
  • Preparing pictures  for printing - how much do I need to do?
  • Sharing pictures -Getting pictures out of the computer

You will use Picasa software which is available FREE for you to use on any computer.

Small numbers and summary hand-outs will ensure you get the most from your short course.

GENERAL PHOTOGRAPHY COURSES- LITTLE BYTHAM 

 

 Improve your digital Photography (day)- Bridge camera, CSC, and SLR camera users

Improve your photography skills and camera handling .This course will show you how to take control of your camera and use Programme mode(P) and Aperture mode(A or Av). We use our proven “step by step approach” so you will gain confidence in using your camera, and in turn help you to be more consistent in taking better pictures.

  • Setting up and using your camera in variety of everyday situations
  • Taking control of focus and exposure
  • Dealing with more difficult subjects and lighting

 Picture styles covered in the day  include landscapes, including foreground interest, putting people pictures, and capturing close-up detail. SLR and CSC camera owners who have a choice of lenses will have the opportunity to try these out.

Travel and Holiday Photography  (Any Camera)

 

This practical “portfolio day” allow you to master the most important picture styles you will need to take pictures on a day out or a holiday.

Each session will give you basic “recipes” for setting up your camera, with a practical photo session to show you the best way take the picture. Find out how to capture landscapes or indoor scenes,  add foreground interest or put people pictures into your pictures, and how to capture detail in your images.

Travel is always challenging...so we will also look at how to take pictures of more difficult photographic subjects or situations, including coping with poor lighting, bad weather, and movement!

Practical tips and summaries with a useful holiday photography checklist should equip you for a better pictorial record of your next day out or that dream holiday.

THEMED  DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY COURSES- LITTLE BYTHAM

This course uses Programme mode and Aperture mode to show you how to set up and use your digital camera to take more creative pictures, and follows on from Improve your Digital Photography .

Find out how  to master the important  elements ..

  • Better composition and lighting
  • Creative use of focus and exposure in pictures
  • Making the most of texture, colour, and form in subjects - Close-up techniques

We will use  indoor studio as well as outdoor venues to develop your understanding of these key elements in taking better pictures, and introduce  some of the more advanced features of your camera  to make the most of its creative control. SLR and CSC camera owners who have a choice of lenses will have the opportunity to try these out . Summary hand-outs for each photographic session cover the set up and photographic techniques that we use during the day.

This popular day course, held in Little Bytham, will help you to work with a variety of subjects and situations with people as your main subjects.

  • Pictures styles - how to set up and take better posed and candid pictures
  • Making the most of natural and artificial lighting
  • Settings - photography in indoor and outdoor venues

Find out how to be more confident in setting up your “shots” use your camera  so that  you get the sort of picture you want.  This course includes a "studio" session to show you to understand lighting and backgrounds. We will  provide you with comprehensive summary hand-outs

Steam Working Day at Nene Valley Railway - ( Nr Peterborough)  Any digital camera   (Day)

A popular course  for  any digital camera is held on a working steam day.A wonderful opportunity for  us to guide you through the best places and ways to take pictures of a variety of subjects including some areas which are not usually  accessible to the general public.

  • Trackside shots of arriving and departing trains
  • The Victorian Signal box
  • Creative and close-up pictures in the sidings and loco maintenance sheds
  • On the locomotive footplate (in station)

  There will be a chance to review your images and we will provide summary sheets for each of the picture styles we cover during the day. This course is based at Nene Valley railway at Wansford Station adjacent to the A1, west of Peterborough.

NEW   Memorabilia Models and Mechanicals  (Nene Valley Railway)

how to take pictures of close up detail of a range of railway related subjects. The course begins with a studio session in the Education Building to show how to  set up and  take pictures of a variety of railway items and memorabilia chosen from the NVR museum collection . These include old documents or photographs, smaller railway related items and models, and  mechanical components. You will apply these techniques at other venues on the railway. Techniques covered will include...

               lighting, focus and exposure

               taking pictures of subjects in difficult situations

  Digital Photography at Ferry Meadows( Peterborough) Any camera  

This year we are offering two types of courses, based on  your photography interest and experience.

 Beginners digital Photography - Get More from your Digital Camera is day course  which will take you through the important digital photography basics including how to set up your camera and take pictures in  a series of practical sessions in the country park.

  • Setting up your camera for everyday situations-  modes and menus
  • Camera handling - composition , use zoom and  getting your pictures sharp!
  • Pictures taking sessions include views, putting people pictures and capturing detail

       

 

NEW Natural History Photography at Egleton Reserve Rutland Water  (Day)

 Course titles are available depending on your interest and camera type....  

-  Introduction to Natural History Photography  suitable for any type of digital camera

-  Close-up Natural History Photography  for SLR, Bridge, and CSC cameras

-  Landscape and Panoramas  for SLR, Bridge, and CSC cameras

All courses make the most of seasonal interest in the reserve including plant and animal subjects.

The beginners course shows you how to set up and in the practical session you will use your camera  to take pictures of natural habitats , plant and animal portraits and how to capture detail.

The Close-up course begins with  a studio session to show you how master the important photographic elements including  composition, lighting, exposure  and focus. These techniques are then applied in the reserve

All courses make the most of seasonal interest in the reserve including plant and animal subjects.
